Bum Wine #3

Good evening ladies and gentlemen.  Its a grey day here in LA,
Califor-ni-A, US of A.  But the mood is far from somber.  In fact the
air is quite electric.  Hapa and Herzeloyde are downstairs making
beats, spliffs are in rotation, and generally everything is going
along smoothly.  Its a far cry from glitz and glamour, but its better
than that because we are doing things we actually care about and not
wasting our time with things we don’t.  I think that working a job or
studying something that you have no emotional attachment to, not
only takes time away from pursuing your own ideas, but also makes it
gradually harder and harder to access and believe in those ideas.  Its
like, the more you get used to being told what to do all the time, the
less likely you’ll be to take a risk and pursue the fruits of your own
imagination.  I mean, why would you if everything is provided for,
your warm, safe, you have a place to live, food to eat, your wife and
kids are happy and healthy.  You know what I say? Fuuuuuggit. Im
trying to live.  GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN.  Or, do whatever the
hell you want to do.  Its that simple.  Im a believer… Weeeeell
congrats to Courteous co-founder Tristan aka Hapa aka Tree aka Trio
aka Triayudees aka Trey-stoon who just graduated college and happy
birthday to squad members Gaveinsteigger and Huxley Anne!! Woot
wooooooot.  Thats cool.  This week was also the last of Huxley Anne’s
month long residency at Low End Theory and she closed it out with a
crazy set with her new live band, Trash Altar.  Basically these
mothafuckas brought 2 modular synthesizers to the club and went in,
patching cables, turning knobs, the whole shabang.  All the while, the
homie Blair McGloiry, who is one of the finest drummers I’ve ever
seen, [shoutout Blair] is finessing on the set and my man Flavio’s
fingers are flying up and down the frets of a midi guitar that’s
somehow spitting out wonked out bass tones among other strange noises.
It’s a pretty wild and unprecedented type of band and it will surely
be super interesting to see where that leads in the future… NEXT MONTH
is going to be our first big release of the year with a brand new full
length project from Aztek.  So excited to share this project with the
world.  Aztek has been killing it for a long time and still people
sleep..  GET WITHIT ALREADY.  I think this project is going to change
all that though.  The tunes are straight murder.  In cold blood,
premeditated.  So be on the lookout for “Summit" coming at you real
soon.  ALSO, below are dates for Gangus’ March tour surrounding the
release of his new album “Anti-Self", check it out and show some love
if he’s in your city… Until next time. - Tone

Cool cool. Well its another day here in Los Angeles.  Theres a lot of
stuff happening in the world right now, but we are here, in the
beautiful February sunshine, accomplishing various tasks and using our
heads to navigate the world.  The head that sits on our neck that
thinks and dreams, behind the eyes…  The head that sometimes aches..
Yes, a lot goes on up there.  Sometimes it’s good sometimes bad.
Sometimes it's colorful, other times dull.. Music is tight.  And we
got a lot of it coming for your listening pleasure this year.  Look
out for a couple of big announcements in the near future ;) ...  For
now, I can say that we are almost done with the very first Courteous
Clothing line and it should be available by the end of March.  We put
in a lot of time conceiving and producing the whole thing.  All the
garments we printed ourselves in the backyard shed turned screen
printing studio.  After a long road of trial and error, it’s finally
almost done and ready to hit the streets upon the backs of you, the
super OGs who read this blog.  Hopefully you like it and we can
continue to make more new clothes in the future. In other news, last
week at Low End was off the charts.  Huxley, Penthouse, MatthewDavid
and Jitwam all slayed it.  If you don’t know Jitwam, I would highly
recommend checking out his SoundCloud.   Gillies Peterson
describes his music as some “Crackly slo-mo funk of the bugged out
variety”  IN ADDITION, the homie Kaelin Ellis just dropped a heavy new project, Veil, available on all your favorite media outlets. SHOW THE MAN SOME LOVE.  Kaelin is a legend and very underrated... shoutout Kaelin.  Anyway, once again thanks for checking out Bum Wine and don’t
go too far. We just getting started!!

“But to be is still more marvelous, because it is endless and requires
no demonstration.  To be is music, which is a profanation of silence
in the interest of silence, and therefore beyond good and evil.  Music
is the manifestation of action without activity.  It is the pure act
of creation swimming in it’s own bosom.  Music neither goads nor
defends, neither seeks nor explains.  Music is the noiseless sound
made by the swimmer in the ocean of consciousness.  It is a reward
which can only be given by oneself.  It is the gift of the god which
one is because he has ceased thinking about God.  It is an augur of
the god which every one will become in due time, when all that is will
be beyond imagination.”

Welcome to the first edition of the Courteous Family blog.  My name is
Tone and I will be your host for this evening.  I’m not exactly sure
what this blog will be about, but for the most part I’ll try to keep
it related to the going-ons within the crew and at our home base here
in the great city of Los Angéles.  Finding myself back at home for the
first time in nearly two months, we are finally starting to get back
in the full swing of things after the whirlwind of the holiday season.
With a fresh year on our plates and a painful hunger to realize the
potential of what this label will become, there is a feeling of
general excitement in the air.  Let me assure you, the next year has
many good things in store for all of you who are interested in what we
do.  We’re excited to tell you all about what we’ve been working on.
Let me see… whats going on, whats going on… well our day one home
slice Tsuruda is currently on Mr. Carmack’s Original Sound tour!  We
are all hyped for him and he’s undoubtedly getting into some
shenanigans out there.  Definitely go check that show out if they’re
in your city… ALSO, Huxley Anne is February’s month long resident at
Low End Theory.  Preeeeeetty crazy, huh?  It’s wild how these things
happen.  The LET crew has been a huge source of inspiration for all of
us over the years and its truly amazing to see all my friends becoming
regulars at that party.  Over the past year or so, we’ve developed a
close relationship with the folks at LET and Alpha Pup and it truly
feels like we have the best team in the world behind us- and for that
we’re forever grateful…  It’s becoming increasingly evident to me that
when you decide where you’d like your life to go and you truly drop
out everything else, all the background noise, naysayers, and
distractions, things begin to fall into place more perfectly than you
would think. It’s really a comforting thought when you accept it as
the truth.  Ahh, Miss Universe how I love you and your mysterious
ways... Other than that, the whole team continues to create stockpiles
of highly explosive-ballistic-fire missiles in the form of music and
artwork and we’re doing our best to bring that to your eyes and ears
at regular intervals.  But its back to the swing of things here, the
sun is shining and it feels like its giving us all warm hugs.  The
birds are chirping softly in the distance singing like god damn Ella
Fitzgerald up there.  The neighbors are gossiping and today we saw
Andrew Reynolds at the skatepark.  So yeah, its all good, we chillin,
doing it live, coming at you direct from the belly of the beast.  Keep
it real brothers and sisters, see you next time.
